Night At the Cinema

Christmas Eve 2017 – me and my brother embark on an epic journey to the local cinema in preparation for the holidays.

We decided on a double feature, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Well done.

Good science-fiction is more than just being epic, and though Star Wars succeeds tremendously in this arena there’s quite a bit of good ole sci-fi genius in there as well.

This series is increasingly self-aware, biting down hard on that postmodernism hard candy, and tasting all the rainbows. Not as much as the MvWC

Luke Skywalker as a grumpy old man is pretty funny.

I still think Zizek came up with some of the dankest fan fiction.

The true force is in imbalance rather than balance. It is precisely the Jedi understanding of the Force which is their undoing.

The definition of “truth” I’m utilizing is the most common, religious, philosophical definition, and the one relied upon in the Star Wars universe. I’m being VERY specific.

Star Wars is approaching its master thesis but I wonder if it ever touches the force.

How dangerous would it be if we really could travel light speed like these space vehicles?

Mainstream science fiction is slowly catching up with Dick.

Midnight Sun, my version self reminder: Bella Thorne finally meets the man of her dreams that she’s been stalking for years. That along with romantic love. Then things go dark and he turns out to be a total creepy psychopath. Closer to something I could relate with.

Now jumanji.

Four un-likely comrades come together over detention, what is this the breakfast club?

Without the empty meaning embodied in the system, what are our avatars?

Virtual space.

Trans.

In some manor the truth of the Self exists in cyberspace.

Bobby Cannavale holds the jungles heart and becomes consumed by darkness.

Incongruous nature.

The superficiality of surface reality.

The game world is always incomplete but appears to us as a whole, much like everyday life.

Their truth is revealed in that they are superficiality presented as what they are not, thus confirming what they “are”. The image, is only a part of the picture, and we assume all the blanks are filled in somewhere we can’t see but what if there are spaces with nothing to fill them in?

The visual space constantly reveals itself to you as incomplete in the fragments of preprogramed dialogue and messy way of reintroducing dead characters.

They are all taught a lesson through their avatars like the scarecrow, lion, and tin man.

Inside that big fella who relies on others to do his intellectual work for him is a small fella who can think for himself, and inside that scrawny vulnerable boy a big strong brave hero. The unconfident girl feels unattractive but inside she’s beautiful/attractive. She’s also badass and didn’t seem to realize that. The “hot girl” appears to be empty and shallow but perhaps there is more to her… or not?

Some truth is always obscured.

Oh snap, 4th person perspective.

A Native American concept of spirits jumping bodies that takes place in the jungle.

If not for sex that kid would’ve remained in virtual reality at the end. Boys and their video games.

In the end they all return to their original virtual reality.
